In India’s first ODI series of 2023, Shikhar Dhawan was not selected as the opener. The team announced by the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee did not include Dhawan, who was previously India’s go-to player in the ODI format of the game.

Dhawan recently participated in the Bangladesh ODI series, however, he struggled in India’s 2-1 defeat to the Tigers. After Dhoni’s squad fell in 2015, this was the only time India lost an ODI series in the neighbouring nation.

Rishabh Pant and Shikhar Dhawan were both dropped by the selection committee, which made significant alterations to the team. Despite the fact that KL Rahul was there, the committee also appointed Hardik Pandya as the team’s vice-captain, which may indicate a significant change in the status quo.

Saba Karim, a former India selector, had previously stated that Shikhar Dhawan would need to be dropped from the team if India were to move on with their ODI squad. After Ishan Kishan produced a double century in Bangladesh, that may have been the deciding factor for the left-handed batter.

Shikhar Dhawan, who served as captain for multiple ODI series in the absence of senior players, has 6793 runs from 167 ODI games at an average of 44.11. To date, he has 17 centuries and 39 half centuries. Dhawan, who is well-known for coming up big in ICC competitions, is one of India’s most productive openers in an ODI World Cup with 537 runs in 10 games.

Rohit has not performed since last year.
But since he is the captain of team so he can't stay out but since @SDhawan25 has not performed in last 2 series he has not been selected in the squad.
If not @SDhawan25 then why not @IamSanjuSamson ?

The one-day international matches will be contested from January 10 to January 15. From January 3 to January 7, three-match T20Is will be played prior to these.

India will be led by Rohit Sharma in the ODIs while he will miss the T20I series owing to a thumb injury. The vice-captain for the ODIs is Hardik Pandya, who will command the T20Is.
