BCCI Selection Panel has taken a bold step by dropping Shikhar Dhawan for the Sri Lanka ODI Series commencing from 10th January. The dashing left-handed batter has been an integral part of the team. He scored 688 runs in 22 ODI matches in the calendar year of 2022.

This ODI Series is not a part of the World Super League, but both teams would be looking to get ample practice for the 2023 Marquee event. The Island nation who got a reality check against Afghanistan where they squared the series by 1-1 would be keen to make a mark against the Men in Blue.

Dooda Ganesh on Shikhar Dhawan

Dooda Ganesh was quite surprised by Shikhar Dhawan’s exclusion and made some interesting comments on him. “Does this mean it’s the end of the road for Shikhar Dhawan as an international cricketer? He was a mighty-fine ODI batter and won India many a games and tournaments. It’s really unfortunate if his career ends in this fashion,” said Dooda Ganesh.

Concerns for India

It looks as if the team wants to try out Ishan Kishan at the top of the order. The dynamic left-handed batter had smashed a thunderstorm double century against Bangladesh in the 3rd ODI. As mentioned by Dooda Ganesh,  Dhawan has been a match winner and it would be interesting to see whether Ishan Kishan fills his boots.

Head Coach Rahul Dravid would be well aware of the fact that they cannot take Sri Lanka lightly as they have got a surprise element in them. Skipper Rohit Sharma has been named in the squad and it would be interesting to see how the team performs after the embarrassing defeat against Bangladesh in the ODIs.
