IND vs SL: “India Will Have To Decide On A Policy With Regards To The Run-Out At The Non-Striker’s End”- Aakash Chopra After Rohit Sharma Calls Back Dasun Shanaka ∼ Former batter Aakash Chopra believes the Indian team should decide on whether they will attempt such run-outs as they did in the case of Dasun Shanaka in the First ODI against Sri Lanka at Guhawati.

The incident occurred in the last over of the match When Mohammed Shami went in to bowl the game’s final over, he snapped the stumps at the non-striker’s end before releasing the ball. Dasun Shanaka was batting at 98 at the moment, and Sri Lanka required 83 from three balls.

Decision Cannot Be Situation Or Individual Specific: Aakash Chopra

The cricketer-turned-commentator felt that the Indian team should decide on a policy regarding the Run-out at the non-striker’s end as the decision cannot be a situation or individual-specific, He suggested that if the team wants to withdraw the appeal, why don’t just make a policy that we won’t appeal.  Chopra said:
“I think India will have to decide on a policy with regards to the run-out at the non-striker’s end. Either you do it or you don’t. The decision can’t be ‘situation specific’ or individual specific. If you’re going to withdraw, make a policy that we won’t. My 2 cents.”

Dasun Shanaka Called Back By Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma

Dasun Shanaka would have been out if Rohit hadn’t withdrawn Shami’s appeal, but instead, the Sri Lankan skipper was permitted to carry on with his innings and eventually reached a score of 108 not out off 88 balls. After Virat Kohli’s 113 off 87 balls, his 45th ODI century, helped the hosts reach 373 for 7 in 50 overs, India went on to win the match by 67 runs.

After the game, Rohit told that he had no idea Shami had done that. The Indian skipper felt that it was not right to dismiss a batter like that who is batting on 98 and had done so well to reach that mark.

“I had no idea Shami had done that,” Rohit told Star Sports after the game. “When he went up in an appeal… Again, he [Shanaka] is batting on 98. The way he batted was brilliant. We got to give it to him. We cannot get him out like that. We wanted to get him out the way we thought we would get him out. But that was not something that we thought of. But again, hats off to him, he played really well.

After winning the T20I series 2-1, India have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. The teams now travel to Kolkata for the second ODI at Eden Gardens on January 12.
