The team for Team India’s upcoming T20I home series versus New Zealand does not feature veteran hitters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Reetinder Singh Sodhi, a former all-rounder, responded to Sharma and Kohli’s omission by saying that the selectors shouldn’t leave the two ace batsmen off the T20I squad. He emphasised that there are no difficulties with either player’s form or conditioning.

Both Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma Look Supremely fit: Reetinder Singh Sodhi

Sodhi mentioned this while talking to India News Sports on January 14:

“It won’t be the right move if the selectors overlook Virat and Rohit in T20 cricket. It would have been understandable if they had been in terrible form or were struggling with their fitness. But both look supremely fit. If they continue playing in this fashion in ODIs, I think the selectors might consider giving them another chance in T20Is.”

Interestingly, since the T20 World Cup in Australia last year, Sharma and Kohli have not participated in a single T20I match. By succeeding in the upcoming Indian Premier League season, the two might return to the format.

India’s Entire Focus Is On The 50-Over World Cup: Rajkumar Sharma

Rajkumar Sharma, Virat Kohli’s former coach, made the suggestion during the conversation that the team management could want Kohli and Rohit Sharma to concentrate on ODIs because of the 50-over World Cup.

He proposed that this may be the cause of their recent absence from the Men in Blue’s T20I team. The two seasoned batsmen can definitely return in the 20-over format in the future, according to Rajkumar.

He clarified:

“India’s entire focus is on the 50-over World Cup. The team management might have asked Rohit and Virat to concentrate more on ODI cricket. I am sure they will be available whenever the team needs them. They are proven campaigners and it’s not like they won’t be able to make a comeback.”

On Sunday, January 15, Sri Lanka and Rohit Sharma will play their third and final one-day international of the current series in Thiruvananthapuram. India has an unbeatable 2-0 series lead, hence the match is a dead rubber.
