The three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka that begins on Tuesday will not include Jasprit Bumrah.
It was decided not to push him into action too quickly, according to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources. He has not arrived in Guwahati, where the first ODI will be played.

Bumrah (29) was selected for the ODI on the recommendation of the all-India selection committee, according to earlier statements from the BCCI. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been added to India’s ODI team for the forthcoming Mastercard 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, based on a media statement from the BCCI on January 3.
Bumrah has not played cricket since September 2022 and was unable to compete in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup because of a back issue. “The pacer has undergone rehabilitation and has been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He will be joining the Team India ODI squad soon,” the BCCI had further said.

What was the need for the pick him up in the first place?
It is just to give false hope to Indian fans.
Jasprit Bumrah should only play for India when he's 100% fit. https://t.co/yiuCv5kggD— Abhishek Ojha (@vicharabhio) January 9, 2023

Whether or if the BCCI issues a formal communication remains to be seen, as the selectors are reported to have left it up to the team management to decide whether or not to utilize Bumrah, and the team management has used its discretion. According to sources, he could play in the white-ball series against New Zealand beginning January 18.
Bumrah made a brief return during a T20I series against Australia at home playing in two of the three matches before being ruled out again.
While Bumrah has remained out of the national squad, other players of the Indian team, including skipper Rohit Sharma, vice-captain KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer, have joined the squad in Guwahati.
The three ODIs between India and Sri Lanka will be played on January 10 (Guwahati), January 12 (Kolkata), and January 15 (Thiruvananthapuram).
