India will host a white-ball series against Sri Lanka, which will include three T20Is and three ODIs. The Men in Blue will play the first T20I at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, January 3. Hardik Pandya will captain the team in a shorter format in the absence of senior players Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli, with Suryakumar Yada serving as his deputy.

Hardik Pandya led the Gujarat Titans (GT) to the title in their debut season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).  His exploits with the IPL franchise have rewarded him with the opportunity to lead the national team, and his record as India’s captain has also been good, winning four of Team India’s five T20Is with the other game ending in a tie.

Really Want To Win The World Cup – Hardik Pandya

At a press conference ahead of the T20I series against Sri Lanka, India captain Hardik Pandya said winning the upcoming World Cup is his “biggest” goal for 2023.

“The biggest to win the World Cup and I don’t think any bigger resolutions can be there. Really want to win the World Cup and we will try everything possible in our capacity to go out there, give everything and I think things are looking right,” said India’s stand-in skipper.

I’ve Not Achieved Anything – Hardik Pandya

The 29-year-old sustained a career-threatening back injury in 2022. The all-rounder recovered from the injury and said it had been “a magical year for me”. Hardik said T20Is are not a priority in an ODI World Cup year, and youngsters will get enough chances with only six shorter format games before the IPL.

“We tried but it did not happen but going forward ‘what I want to achieve?’ Sir there is lot to achieve, I’ve not achieved anything. Looking forward to the World Cup coming. There will be multiple World Cups in multiple years and the goal will be to win them.”

“We are looking to play in a certain way which we will. Before the IPL, only six games are there. So we don’t have much time to do a lot of things. But, going forward, we will keep creating new plans and see which plans are sticking and which are working for us. And, going forward, make sure that everyone gets ample opportunities.”
