Former Australia National Cricket Team all-rounder Tom Moody has showered ultimate praise on the India National Cricket Team star middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav, who has been extremely consistent with his performances in the shortest format of the game, since making his international debut in 2021.

The hard-hitting 360-degree batter Suryakumar Yadav is currently at the No.1 position in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings. Overall, the 32-year-old has slammed 1578 runs at an average of 46.41 and a strike rate of 180.34 in 45 matches. Also, the middle-order batter has registered 3 tons and 13 half-centuries to his name in T20Is.

In an interview with Sports Tak, Moody was asked who is his favorite batter in T20s, he responded by naming Suryakumar and Moody also drew his comparison with West Indies great Vivian Richards.

“Suryakumar Yadav. Just the way he plays, it’s breathtaking. It reminds me so much of… when I was a young cricketer, watching the likes of Vivian Richards. The player who just seems to be in control of the game single-handedly,” said Moody.

Suryakumar, after his dominance in T20Is, has been included in India’s squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia National Cricket Team, which will commence in February.

He’s a rare diamond – Tom Moody on Umran Malik

During the same interaction, the 57-year-old said that Umran Malik is a rare diamond, and he was pleased to see the Indian team providing the express pacer with enough opportunities at the highest level.

“It’s exciting to see the Indian team embracing him and he’s getting the opportunity to play at the highest level. It’s where he is going to do his most amount of learning,” said Moody.

“Around a high-performance environment, he is continuing to improve, like all fast young fast bowlers, it takes time and you have to be patient.

“But he’s a rare diamond. You rarely find fast bowlers that bowl 150+ kph,” said Moody.
