India has played 68 games after Rohit Sharma was appointed all-format captain earlier in the year (5 Tests, 21 ODIs and 42 T20Is). only 39 of which he has appeared (2 Tests, 8 ODIs, and 29 T20Is). The T20 World Cup was also obviously the primary factor in BCCI’s workload management, but Rohit also missed a significant amount of games due to injury.

In the last year, much has been made of the Indian captain’s shaky physical condition. An Indian captain had not missed as many games due to a variety of issues. His poor batting form has made Rohit’s problems worse.

Is Rohit Sharma Fit Enough?: Kapil Dev

Rohit Sharma, who has been a key member of India’s batting line-up with Virat Kohli for the past ten years, has no issues with his cricketing abilities, according to former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev, but his fitness is a massive worry. Regarding the Indian captain’s fitness, Kapil stated that he had significant concerns.

“There’s no shortcoming in Rohit Sharma. He has everything but I personally think, there is a huge question mark over his fitness. Is he fit enough? Because a captain should be someone who motivates the other players to get fitter, the teammates should feel proud of their captain,” Kapil said on ABP News.

If Rohit Sharma Gets Fitter, The Entire Team Will Rally Around Him: Kapil Dev

The Indian captain who led his country to victory in the 1983 World Cup claimed that if Rohit increases his level of fitness, it will inspire the other cricketers in India.

“I can say with surety that there is a huge doubt over Rohit’s fitness. There has been a lot of criticism that he hasn’t scored that many runs since he has become captain, I kind of agree with it but I don’t think there is any issue with his cricketing skills. He is a very successful cricketer. If he gets fitter, the entire team will rally around him,” he added.

Additionally, Kapil urged the Indian team’s talented youngsters to take the lead rather than rely solely on Rohit and Kohli to carry them to victory in the World Cup.

The last time Rohit played for India was in the second ODI vs Bangladesh. Due to a dislocated left thumb, he was unable to play in the third ODI, the subsequent two-match series, or the current three-match T20I series versus Sri Lanka at home. The three-match ODI series versus Sri Lanka, which begins January 10, will mark the comeback of the illustrious right-handed batsman.

Given that Rohit is one of India’s stalwarts in the ODI World Cup, which will be played in home conditions, there is going to be lot of attention paid to his physical condition and level of fitness.
