Kuldeep Yadav, India’s top spinner, has once again been left out of the starting lineup for the opening One-Day International match against Sri Lanka at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

Kuldeep Yadav Benched Again

Kuldeep has previously been benched after receiving Man of the Match honors. Following a four-wicket performance against South Africa, he was unable to secure a spot in the upcoming ODI in New Zealand. The 28-year-old was also passed over for the second Test that was played in Bangladesh last month.

The first One Day International match between India and Sri Lanka will take place at the Barsapra Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on January 10 after a thrilling T20I series. After winning 2-1 in the T20Is, the home team would be bursting with confidence and ready to repeat the results in the 50-over format.

However, the Indian squad is also conscious that they are coming off two straight ODI series losses in the previous two months going into this specific series. In November, they suffered a 0-1 setback in New Zealand, but they were defeated 1-2 by Bangladesh away from home. They must thus start pulling up their boots as the World Cup preparations commence.

On the other side, Sri Lanka would be looking for redemption after losing the T20I series and will stop at nothing to make a return in the ODIs. After their home series versus Afghanistan in November, which finished in a 1-1 draw, the Lankans would like to put up a stronger showing.
