Indian Cricket Team had won the toss and elected to bat first. Surprisingly Men in Blue named an unchanged squad whereas Sri Lanka made one tactical change as they dropped Bhanuka Rajapaksa & included the dashing right-handed batter, Avishka Fernando.

In the very first over of the match, the left-arm speedster Madushanka got rid of the scintillating left-handed batter Ishan Kishan. The ball was doing a bit of movement where Rahul Tripathi & Shubman Gill applied a bit cautious approach and then started taking calculative risks.

Chamika Karunaratne Dismisses Rahul Tripathi

At the end of 5 overs, India’s score was 39-1. Skipper Dasun Shanaka gave the ball to Chamika Karunaratne. On the 3rd & 4th delivery of the over, Rahul Tripathi hit sixes straight down the track and it didn’t look as if he was playing his 2nd T20I match. On the 5th ball of the over, Karunaratne bowled a back of a length and cramped Tripathi for room where the batter gave a catch to the third man to Madushanka. Tripathi was looking in sublime touch where he scored 35 runs in 16 balls where he struck 5 fours and 2 sixes. India’s score at that time was 52-2.

Crucial Phase for India

India would be well aware of the fact that they cannot afford to score 160 odd runs. All eyes would be on Shubman Gill as the batter has looked in great touch. With the pitch not assisting the bowlers significantly, India must target a score in excess of 180 which would give them a psychological advantage.

Sri Lanka on the other side needs to keep on picking wickets as we saw how deep India bat in the 2nd T20I match. Skipper Dasun Shanaka should bring him into the attack as he has pretty good record against India. It would be interesting to see how the batters play Hasaranga as in 2nd T20I match Axar had thrashed him.
