Team India skipper Rohit Sharma has confirmed that KL Rahul will play at number 5 in the team’s lineup against Sri Lanka.

India played some fantastic T20I cricket under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy, but Rohit Sharma is fit and ready to lead the Men in Blue in ODIs.

Rahul, who bats for India in the middle of the order in the 50-over format, hasn’t been playing at his best lately and has had trouble scoring runs in pivotal games. He last hit a century in an ODI back in March of 2021.

Suryakumar, on the other hand, has been in excellent shape in the shorter format, as seen by his recent smashing of his third T20I century in the previous six months.

The series also serves as a warm-up for India’s participation in the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India later this year. Rohit Sharma is back in charge, and KL Rahul and Virat Kohli have also returned to action. The trio did not play in the T20Is because Hardik Pandya was seen leading a young Indian brigade, which is thought to have been done in preparation for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Rahul recently lost his ODI vice-captaincy to Hardik Pandya after his underwhelming show with the bat. In the Bangladesh ODIs, Rahul scored 95 runs in three matches at an average of 31.66.

After an exciting T20I series, which India won 2-1, the action now shifts to ODIs, with the first one being played at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati.
