The India National Cricket Team batting maestro Virat Kohli once again played an absolutely sensational knock in the 50-over cricket as he slammed a remarkable century against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team in the third ODI of the series on Sunday, January 15.

The third and final ODI between the Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and the Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team is a dead rubber as the Men In Blue have already clinched the series after winning the first two matches comfortably.

The third ODI is currently underway at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Notably, this is only the second ODI being held at the Greenfield International Stadium as before today the only ODI at the venue was played in 2019 between India and West Indies.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli came out to bat after the dismissal of captain Rohit Sharma in the 16th over. He looked fluent out in the middle and once again displayed his class when he batted against the Sri Lankan bowling unit. He also stitched up a brilliant 131-run stand with the youngster Shubman Gill. This was the 73rd-century partnership in ODIs in which Kohli was involved.

Virat Kohli batted with a good strike rate and completed his half-century off just 48 balls. He then kept batting brilliantly and smashed a four to Chamika Karunaratne on the 5th ball of the 43rd over and then took a single on the next delivery to reach the century milestone. He smashed his century off just 85 balls, with 10 fours and 1 six. This was his 46th ODI century and 74th overall in international cricket.

In his last 4 innings in 50-over cricket for India, the modern-day batting great has slammed 3 tons. He smashed 113 in the third ODI against Bangladesh last month and registered an identical score in the series opener against Sri Lanka in Guwahati.

Talking about records, Virat Kohli has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar with the most ODI hundreds at home (21). This was Kohli’s 10th ODI ton against Sri Lanka and he has become the first-ever batsman to hit 10 centuries against a single team in ODIs.

Virat Kohli has also surpassed Sri Lanka legend Mahela Jayawardene to become the 5th highest run-getter in the history of ODI cricket and among current cricketers, the closest to him in terms of international centuries is David Warner with 45 tons.
