Veteran England cricketer Moeen Ali continues his bashing of former skipper Alastair Cook as he came up with a new dig at the former England skipper. He previously had said that Joe Root was a better skipper than Cook as he was more emotionally connected to the players.

Ali commentated that during the coverage of the 4th Ashes Test on BT Sport along with Cook and also took a dig at Cook’s captaincy, stating that under his captain he had batted at different positions, from opening to till number nine as well.

“Cooky would never give me throwdowns. Rooty has a bit more of, I would say, an emotional attachment with the players. He probably spends a bit more time with the players,” Moeen Ali had said.

Both the cricketers then debated about who among the current England squad can become a good coach in the future. Taking an opportunity, Moeen Ali said that some players ‘don’t have the empathy’ to take up the role pointing towards Cook.

In his response to the question, Ali said “Yeah I think so, there are a couple of guys who could potentially be a good coach, somebody who could go that way. “But there are also some guys who you think coaching’s not for them. He hasn’t got the patience for it, the empathy for it.”

Taking a cue from Ali’s response, Cook understood that it was again a dig directed at him he said ” Just another dig, just another dig!”.

The pair also discussed if the current England skipper Eoin Morgan can go on to become a good coach to which Ali had a negative response.

“I don’t, for example, see someone like Morgs [going into coaching]. I’m not saying he wouldn’t be a good coach, I just don’t see him doing that. I think he’d be a good mentor for a team” said Ali.

The off-spinner however pointed out that someone like Chris Jordan can become a good coach for England given that he is a likeable character within the dressing room.

“Someone like Chris Jordan, who does a bit of everything, I think he would be a good coach. He has that personality in the dressing room where everyone trusts him,” added the spinner.

Meanwhile, coach Chris Silverwood is likely to be replaced after England’s Ashes debacle as the ECB are looking for his potential replacement.
