Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley has confirmed that the 5th Ashes Test match between Australia and England will be a day-night Test match.

On Monday, Cricket Australia (CA) had confirmed that the fifth men’s Ashes 2021-22 Test match which was scheduled to begin at Perth will be shifted to any other place due to COVID-19 pandemic-related restrictions in the state.

Also, it was reported that Cricket Australia (CA) and Western Australian Cricket (WA Cricket) have worked closely with the Western Australia Government and Perth Stadium over several months, regarding staging the Ashes finale.

It was told that they were looking forward to prioritising the health and well-being of the WA community, and we’re looking forward to providing a promising environment for the players, their families, match officials, staff and broadcast partners. However, due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the match was moved out of Perth.

Meanwhile, the Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley told SEN Test Cricket that the Ashes finale will be played with a pink ball irrespective of venue. He elaborated:

We’ve had lots of interest, I won’t go into specifics because we’re going through all the details now but as I said, we’re working to come to a position as quickly as possible. Hopefully, there will be an announcement in the not-too-distant future.”

We’ve tried to be fair to everyone, we’ve given everyone an opportunity, we’ll be taking in a range of considerations, and ultimately it’s my job to put a recommendation to the board. The plan is, wherever it’s played, to be a day-night Test with a pink ball.”
