Legendary Australia leg-spinner Shane Warne believes dropping batsman Usman Khawaja from the team for the Ashes finale won’t be a wise decision.

Khawaja has made an astonishing comeback in the Australian Test team, playing his first Test after 2019 he went on to smash hundreds in both the innings of the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) Test against England.

Notably, Khawaja was fighting for the no.5 position in the team with Travis Head and was not considered as a first-choice player, as Head was given the opportunity over him in the first three Ashes games. However, Head was tested positive for Covid-19 which led to Khawaja finally getting an opportunity.

Speaking during commentary for Fox Cricket, the 52-year-old Shane Warne said that Khawaja is making the job tough for the team management and even labelled him as ” undroppable”.

“I think he’s just about undroppable. I was a bit like let’s give Harris this innings, let’s give him the next Test match, that’s how I was, I think Khawaja himself said ‘I understand Head will come back and Harris has done pretty well,’ so he fully expects to play in Hobart.

“But I tell you what, the way he’s batted, with the hundred he made and this, he’s making it tough,” he said.

Legendary wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist feels that Usman Khawaja ” has to stay in the team” and he should play the Ashes finale. He added that Khawaja is easily among the top 6 batters in Australia at the moment.

“I think he has to stay in the team. I love a sense of loyalty, I know that’s something the selectors and particularly Justin Langer have tried to commit to Marcus Harris with staying with him and they were repaid somewhat down at the MCG.

“But Harris will be kicking himself he’s missed two opportunities to convert. I think Usman Khawaja has clearly showed he’s in the top six best batters in Australia.”
