England cricketer Moeen Ali wants England to focus on the Test side and make it as stronger as the ODI and T20I squads. His words arrive after England lost the Ashes 2021-22 to Australia 3-0, after losing the first three games.

On Tuesday, England lost to Australia in the 3rd Test of ongoing Ashes 2021-22. Batting against a lead of 82 runs in the 2nd innings, England collapsed for a mere 68, losing the match by an innings and 14 runs. We Need Revolution In Red-Ball Cricket As Well: Moeen Ali

While speaking to BT Sport, Moeen Ali said that England needs a revolution for a strong squad for the Test squad as they did for the ODI squad. England’s limited-overs squad went under revolution after their humiliating performance in ODI World Cup 2015. The process worked for them as they won the next edition of the ODI World Cup 2019.

“It has obviously worked because we won the World Cup and we’ve done really well in white-ball cricket. It has worked. I just feel that now the white-ball cricket is so set and strong – the foundations are there, the players are there, we know what we’re doing, Eoin Morgan leads that amazingly well – I think we need that in red-ball cricket now as well,” Moeen Ali said.

Ali, who retired from the Test format a few months ago after the Test series against India, also mentioned that the current Test squad of England is largely dependent on Joe Root in the batting department.

“I don’t think we’ve been good enough. I think it has been coming, actually. I’ve been part of this team. It’s not long ago that I was in that side. You just felt that sometimes we were papering over the cracks at home, where it does do a bit and we’re kind of used to those conditions. When we go away, it’s always difficult and if Joe Root doesn’t score, we actually really struggle to even score 200 or anything competitive”, Moeen Ali further said.

In the ongoing Ashes 2021-22 series, England have totally struggled to play well against Australia. The visitors have faced defeats by big margins in all three games so far. England lost the 1st Test by 9 wickets.

In the 2nd Test, Australia won by 275 runs. In the 3rd game, the victory margin increased to an innings and 14 runs. Now, both the teams will lock horns in the 4th Test, slated to begin on January 5 at Sydney Cricket Ground.
