Captain of England National Cricket Team Joe Root has said that he is delighted to see all-rounder Ben Stokes making a comeback in the team for the upcoming Ashes 2021-22 series.
The 30-year-old Stokes took an indefinite break from all cricket in July to prioritise his mental well-being and to recover from a finger injury. He was not part of England’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad. However, he has made a comeback to the side just before the marquee Ashes.

Joe Root while talking about Ben Stokes said that Stokes whenever plays a game he puts his mark in the game.
“More than anything, it’s really good to just see Ben back involved again in the frame of things and to see him come into the limited game time that we had, and to look as good as he did as well, You always know that when he gets into a game he always wants to put his mark on it and put a stamp on it. But yes, I think there will be an element of managing expectations,” Root elaborated.
Root added that Stokes will play a big part in the Ashes series as he has a plethora of experience under his belt.
“You’ve got to trust his experience and, I suppose, our whole bowling group can work collectively to take those wickets and I’m sure Ben will have a big say in that,” he said.
Meanwhile, Stokes in the intra-squad practice match bowled 10 overs picking 2 wickets and he also scored 42 runs.
There’s Obviously Been A Very Different Build-up To This Series – Joe Root
England captain Root also revealed that the build-up to the Ashes series has been very different this time and they are trying to prepare themselves mentally and physically.
“The most important thing over the course of the next couple of days is we do everything we can to ready ourselves, not just physically, but mentally, There’s obviously been a very different build-up to this series, and this Test match in particular,” he added.
Joe Root further added that they have planned several things and will have to be fully confident in the match to execute the plans.
“But I think we’ve planned really well for it and given ourselves the best possible chance with the opportunities we’ve had to play outside and train outside. We just have to be full of confidence and trust all of the work that we’ve done,” he further added.
The first Test of the Ashes 2021-22 will begin on December 8 at the iconic Gabba, Brisbane.
