The five-match Test series between India and England has come to an end for now — and it wasn’t the climax that the fans would have wanted to see in a high-intensity series in England. India is leading the series 2-1 and the fifth test had to be called off at Manchester amid the Covid issues with the Indian coaching staff. It was the last thing that the Indian fans would have wanted after seeing the subcontinent side dominate most of the series.

With the health conditions of the players of the team and the opponent at risk, it was better to call off as anything could have happened during the five days despite the players testing negative.

Ravindra Jadeja finished as the fifth-highest run-scorer for India in the tour of England 2021 with 160 runs in 7 innings in the series. The left-arm spinner played the role of an all-rounder in the side and kept Ashwin from the playing XI for the whole series with some useful contributions with both bat and ball.

Jadeja has promoted up the order in the fourth Test at Oval at number 5 but he still did not get a big score despite looking good at the crease. The left-hander had an average of 22.85 with one fifty with the highest score of 56 in the series.

Virat Kohli:

The Indian skipper Virat Kohli is fourth on the list and truly, it has been one of the mediocre series for him as a batsman while excelling as the captain. Kohli scored 218 runs in 7 innings in the tour of England at an average of 31.14 and scored two-half centuries in the process.

Kohli clearly has been struggling to convert his starts into big scores which he has been doing well in the past and he hasn’t scored a century for almost two years. He did look good at times when he is playing those beautiful cover drives but a player of his quality has to score centuries.

Cheteshwar Pujara:

Cheteshwar Pujara is third on the list, and he turned out to look better once the series progressed. The Indian number three was under immense pressure when the series started but he answered the critics in the best way possible with 227 runs in 8 innings at an average of 32.42.

Pujara scored two half-centuries in the series with the highest score of 91 and played some crucial knocks when the team needed him the most. He has been improving on his strike rate as well which is a good sign and will be looking to make a big score next time around.

KL Rahul:

KL Rahul was the surprise package for India and he came into the playing XI at the last moment as a replacement for injured Mayank Agarwal and produced a master class of batting. He finished as India’s second-highest run-scorer in the series with 315 runs in 8 innings at an average of 39.37.

Rahul hit one scintillating century at the Lord’s and one half-century in the series while he managed to get starts in the remaining innings. His patience was one of the best sights for India at the top and his return has had a great impact on India.

Rohit Sharma:

Once again, it was the hitman Rohit Sharma who delivered in a high intense situation and India hasn’t had an opening partnership like Rohit and Rahul for a long time in England as they kept giving good starts. Rohit in particular was the visitor’s best batsman on display and it gave the whole dressing room a lot of confidence.

Rohit hit 368 runs in 8 innings in the series at an average of 52.57 and his century in Oval was his first in overseas conditions as well. He also scored two half-centuries in the series and looks well on track for a big one in the next assignment.
