India is scheduled to play a 3 match ODI series against England after the T20 series gets over and we might see few players returning to the ODI squad again after a long time. India has been resting a lot of senior players due to the hectic schedule this year and to manage the workload of the players but the selectors would be tempted to include players back for the ODI series against a strong England XI.

India lost their last ODI series against Australia in December 2020 and they would be hoping to put up a better performance in their own backyard against England. Devdutt Padikkal and Prithvi Shaw have scored a load of runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and it will be interesting to see if they get picked up for the ODI series.

3 Indian Players Who Can Make A Comeback In The ODI Setup After A Long Time:

Axar Patel impressed in his debut test series against England in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja and earned his recall for the T20 series against England. Though he won’t be the perfect match for Jadeja’s recent batting form, Axar Patel is a handy replacement for Jadeja. He was picked up in the playing XI for the first T20, but couldn’t make inroads as England dominated the proceedings.

However, his ODI record has been very good and he was part of the 2015 Worldcup squad.  He has played 38 ODI games for India picking up 45 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 4.43. He produces an economical 10 over spell more often and can be handy with the bat at eight. He will be one of the names discussed for the ODI series against England with Jadeja not yet recovered.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar made a comeback to the Indian T20 side in the England series after missing out for a long time due to injury concerns. Bhuvneshwar has always been in the eyes of the selectors and hasn’t been at his prime best since his return. He did a decent job in the second T20, picking up an early wicket of Jos Buttler in the first over the innings.

Bhuvneshwar’s main strength has been the ability to swing the ball both ways and he must be aware of it to get his going. However, he hasn’t had international match practice for a long time, and India will be looking to give him an extended run to get into his groove. He will be an important member of the Indian limited-overs set up especially with the T20 World Cup coming up and hence is likely to stage a comeback into the Indian ODI side.

Rohit Sharma:

Rohit Sharma has been rested for the first two T20 games against England to keep him ready for the upcoming ODI series. Ishan Kishan took the opportunity with both hands and produced blazing innings of 56 in 34 deliveries in his debut T20 game. With Shikhar Dhawan’s recent struggles at the top, India will surely need their number one opener, Rohit Sharma, in the ODI lineup back.

Rohit’s ODI record has been phenomenal over the years and the 2019 World Cup was the best example of his class. He has taken responsibilities and has become used to scoring big hundreds which change the course of the game. He did not feature in the last One day series against Australia due to an injury he picked up in the IPL and is ready to stage a comeback in the ODI series against England.
