India white-ball captain reminded leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal of the upcoming IPL 2022 auction and wishes him good luck in a cheeky manner, as the two got together for a talk after India won the first ODI against West Indies in Ahmedabad to go 1-0 up in the three-match series.

It was a memorable win for the Men in Blue as India became the first team to play 1000 ODI matches in cricket history and it was also the first time Rohit Sharma led India as their full-time white-ball captain.

While West Indies didn’t do much as they were bowled out for 176 after being put in to bat first, with only Jason Holder making 57 and Fabien Allen contributing 27 runs. India chased down the total with some difficulty despite Rohit Sharma making 60 and adding 84 for the first wicket with Ishan Kishan, who made 28.

I Had Never Imagined I Will Achieve It This Early: Yuzvendra Chahal On 100 ODI Wickets

The match proved to be a milestone for Yuzvendra Chahal as well. He picked 4/49 and was named the Player of the Match. During the course of his spell, Chahal also completed 100 wickets in ODI format, becoming the 23rd Indian bowling to achieve the feat.

“It feels great. My career has seen ups and downs in the last five years. But it’s a good feeling when you take 100 wickets in any format, it’s a big thing. I had never imagined I will achieve it this early. I continued bowling with the same approach.

I have changed the angle a bit, especially for slow wickets. When I was not a part of the team, I was thinking about the improvement I can bring in my bowling. I used to see other bowlers who used to get a bit side arm for these wickets, so I also noticed that the release is much quicker and there is more effort from the wrist in that case,” Chahal said in the interaction with Rohit.

“You (Rohit) had told me before the match and even I thought I missed this during the South Africa tour — I was not bowling a lot of googlies. It was in my mind and when a hard-hitter sees the ball in the slot and decides that he will go for the big shot, I have a weapon. Googly is very important for a leg-spinner,” Chahal revealed.

To conclude the interview, Rohit Sharma reminded Yuzvendra Chahal that the IPL 2022 mega auction was coming up and wished him luck.

“You are a key player for us, I want you to play with that mindset. There will always be ups and downs. But it is very important to play with the right mindset. And the auction is coming as well, so good luck,” Rohit advised.

Chahal, who was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore, was not retained by the franchise and will go under the hammer when the IPL 2022 auction takes place in Bengaluru on February 12-13.
