India will play a three-match ODI and T20I series against the West Indies in February. The IND vs WI ODI series will be played between February 6-11. This will be followed by a T20I series between February 16-20. Earlier, the ODIs were scheduled to be played in Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Kolkata respectively. While the T20Is were slated to be played in Cuttack, Vishakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram.

The IND vs WI ODI series will now be played from 6 February in Ahmedabad.  The next two games of the series will be played at the same venue considering the changes made by BCCI in wake of the rising COVID-19 cases in India. The T20I games will be played between February 16-20 at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata

Given how few of the senior Indian players have performed in the first ODI against South Africa in Paarl, the BCCI might think of dropping them for the next series as part of their rotation process. Few key players are expected to make a return in the West Indies series which might see the senior players get dropped or in other words get benched.

In this article, we will take a look at three senior players who might get benched for the series.

The senior Indian bowler did not look at his best on his return into the ODI side. He went for 64 off his 10 overs as the South African batsmen dominated him. He has just recovered from a hamstring injury, however, he did not look this fittest during his spell in the first ODI. A similar performance in the remaining two ODIs might surely see him getting benched in the ODI series.

Ashwin was recalled into the Indian ODI set up after a long gap of four years. However, the move was more to allow Ravindra Jadeja to have some time off from the game and nurse his injury. He is expected to come back into the ODI and T20I squads at home in the IND vs WI series. Ashwin might get benched in the process, as he is not the first-choice spinner anymore in the white-ball formats in the current Indian team.

Since that ton in Centurion, KL Rahul has endured a tough time in the series against South Africa. He lost his first test as captain followed by his first match ODI as captain as well. His bat has also remained silent since that first knock. Experts are of the view that Rahul is perhaps not ready to shoulder captaincy responsibilities as yet. He might be given a break if he does not score runs in the last two ODIs.
