Former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar has picked his choice between Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer for the T20I series against West Indies which kicks off on February 16 in Kolkata. Either of them will slot in at number four in the batting lineup for India. Iyer has played 32 T20Is for India as compared to Suryakumar Yadav who has played just 11.

Ajit Agarkar, while talking to Star Sports lauded the batting abilities of both the batsmen. However, he chose Yadav ahead of Iyer for the first T20I against West Indies in Kolkata. Agarkar went for SKY’s versatility as compared to the more straightforward approach from Shreyas Iyer.

“Both are very good players, both good strikers of the ball. I just feel Suryakumar Yadav is more versatile if you need him to bat a little bit higher or even if it’s at 5 or 6, he seems to have a bit more to his game or more all-around ability to his batting than Shreyas Iyer,” Agarkar said.

Agarkar further said that he is choosing Surya over Iyer based on recent form and the ability to play according to the situation in the middle order. Both have been in good form in the ODI series against West Indies. While Suryakumar finished with 104 runs in the series, Iyer scored a defining 80 in the third and final ODI after recovering from Covid.

Shreyas Iyer

“Shreyas Iyer is a terrific player who can strike the ball well but at this point, If I had to pick one out of the two – it’ll have to be Suryakumar Yadav because he just seems in better form, seems to have a lot more all-round game and more suited to the number 5 or 6 at this point,” said Agarkar.

Earlier today, Shreyas Iyer was also announced as the new skipper for KKR ahead of IPL 2022. He was roped in by the franchise for 12.25 crores in the mega auction.
