IND vs WI: India ODI Squad 2022 For The Series (Predicted). After touring South Africa, India will play a white-ball home series against West Indies. The Men in Blue will play three one-day internationals and as many T20Is, starting from 6th February 2022. The three ODIs will be played on 6th, 9th, and 12th February 2022.

For the unversed, Rohit Sharma has been appointed as the new captain in both formats of white-ball cricket, while KL Rahul is his deputy. Rohit Sharma opted out of ODI series against South Africa due to an injury. Thus, the upcoming ODIs against West Indies will be his first ODI assignment as a full-time captain.

Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India would look to prepare a solid squad with an eye on ICC 2023 World Cup. The first one-day international between India and West Indies will be played in Ahmedabad, while the second and third matches of the series will be played in Jaipur and Kolkata. Ahead of the three-match series, here’s a look at our predicted 15-man squad of the Indian Cricket Team.

IND vs WI: India ODI Squad 2022 For The Series (Predicted)

  1. Rohit Sharma

Due to a hamstring injury, Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the Test and ODI series in South Africa. He has recently been appointed as the full-time captain of the Indian Cricket Team in the ODI as well as T20 format. Rohit Sharma would look to make a significant impact with the bat and his leadership in what will be his first ODI assignment as a full-time captain. It will be interesting to see his approach in the ODI format as captain of the team.

  1. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan is no longer in India’s scheme of things as far as T20 and Test Cricket is concerned. However, he is still a part of India’s ODI setup. With the rise of young players like Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad, there will be pressure on Shikhar Dhawan to perform consistently with the bat and help India get off to solid starts at the top of the order. If gets an opportunity, Dhawan would be looking to make the most of it.

  1. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Impressive performances in the IPL 2021 and the Vijay Hazare Trophy helped Ruturaj Gaikwad find a place in India’s squad for the ODI series against South Africa. The CSK opener has impressed one and all with his batting prowess in white-ball cricket. His technique and hunger to prosper is likely to help him become a regular in all formats of the game. From here, Gaikwad needs to make the most of whatever opportunity is thrown at him.

  1. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli hasn’t been at his best for the last couple of years across formats. He hasn’t scored a century in any format for the last two years. After deciding to step down from the T20 captaincy, Virat Kohli has also been relieved of the captaincy duties in the ODI format. Having said that, he still remains a vital part in India’s ODI team. He will be an integral cog in the middle-order for India ahead of the upcoming three-match ODI series. It will be interesting to see how he fares with the bat.

  1. Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav’s impressive run in the T20 format has helped him find a place in India’s ODI team as well. He couldn’t do anything significant with the bat in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 but looked solid in the T20 series against New Zealand which followed thereafter. Suryakumar Yadav was picked in the India’s squad for the ODI series against South Africa and is likely to be persisted against West Indies as well.

  1. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer has performed admirably in the ODIs so far in his international cricket career. Impressive performances on a consistent basis have helped him become a regular in the ODI format. At the time of writing, Shreyas Iyer has played 22 one-day internationals for India, scoring 813 runs at an average of 42.8. Shreyas Iyer would look to capitalize on the great start he has got in one-day internationals.

  1. KL Rahul

KL Rahul might be opening in T20Is and Tests but bats in the middle-order in ODIs. He has been in blistering form and is doing a great job in the middle-order in ODIs for India. KL Rahul has been appointed as the vice-captain of the team in ODIs and T20 internationals. He will have that added responsibility and would look to do his best.

  1. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant is currently India’s all-format wicket-keeping batsman. There have been debates on his shot selection over the last couple of years but the southpaw has also been backed for his attacking approach of batting. Having said that, the team would expect him to dish out consistent performances with the bat.

  1. Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer recently made his debut for India during the T20 international series against New Zealand. Ever since making his debut for KKR in the second leg of IPL 2021, Venkatesh Iyer impressed one and all with his explosive batting exploits. Besides, his multi-dimensional skills have only helped him find a place in the ODI squad as well. With Hardik Pandya currently not in the scheme of things, Venkatesh Iyer would look to cement his position in the white-ball format.

  1. Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin made his comeback in the T20 format after being selected for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The Indian spinner is now part of the squad for the ODIs as well. He was selected in the ODI squad against South Africa and is likely to be selected for the ODIs against West Indies as well. Ashwin would look to make the most of the opportunity and cement his place in the ODI team.

  1. Yuzvendra Chahal

For the second spinner in the squad, Yuzvendra Chahal should make the cut. He was opted out of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 but was brought back in the T20 series against New Zealand which followed thereafter. Yuzvendra Chahal remains an integral part of India’s ODI set-up. He was included in the ODI squad against South Africa and is likely to be persisted against West Indies as well. In 56 ODIs played so far, Chahal has managed to pick 97 wickets at an average of 26.9.

  1. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah should lead the pace-attack of the Indian Cricket Team in the upcoming ODI series against West Indies. He will be the main strike-bowler and an important part of India’s bowling attack. Bumrah has been consistently picking wickets for India since his debut in international cricket. He is expected to have a significant impact with the ball against West Indies.

  1. Shardul Thakur

For the second pace-bowling all-rounder, Shardul Thakur is expected to make the cut. The Indian all-rounder has become an all-format asset for the team. He made headlines in the second Test against South Africa in Johannesburg, picking as many as seven wickets in an innings. Thakur gives that right balance in the squad and, thus, is a no-brainer in the India’s squad for the ODI series against West Indies.

  1. Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj was ruled out of the third and final Test in South Africa due to an injury. It will take him some time to recover and he might miss out on the three ODIs against South Africa, scheduled to start from 19th January 2022. The Indian pacer, however, should fully recover himself by the start of the ODI series against the West Indies. So far, in his international ODI career, he has played only 1 ODI without a wicket to his name.

  1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

The presence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar will have the much-needed experience in the bowling unit. His form, of late, doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence. The Indian seamer, however, has been backed by the management for the upcoming three-match ODI series in South Africa. His inclusion in the ODI squad against West Indies depends a lot on how he plays against the Proteas. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has played 119 one-day internationals so far in his career and has managed to pick 141 wickets at an average of 34.2
