Kieron Pollard-led West Indies National Cricket Team lost the first ODI of the three-match One Day International series against Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team by 6 wickets on Sunday, February 6, at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited the Kieron Pollard-led West Indies to bat first. West Indies had a terrible show with the bat as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and they were bundled out for 176. West Indies would have got all-out below 150 runs if Jason Holder and Fabian Allen wouldn’t have added 78 runs together.

Toss is a crucial factor, it’s wet out there right now – Kieron Pollard

During the post-match presentation, West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard said that losing the match with 22 overs to spare is a heavy defeat. He was also disappointed with the batting performance of the team and said that they picked 4 wickets, which shows they can compete if they put good runs on the board. He asserted:

“Losing with 22 overs to spare is a heavy defeat. Same old for us – not being able to bat 50 overs. Have to take stock of that. We’ve got to dig deep, get better in terms of technique, myself included. Credit to the guys turning up. Has been difficult the last couple of days. Getting four wickets there shows if we put some runs we can compete.”

Kieron Pollard mentioned that the toss was a crucial factor and losing it was a disadvantage for West Indies. He said:

“Toss is a crucial factor. It’s wet out there right now. Tonight it just slid onto the bat. That’s the nature of cricket, we can’t change that.”

Kieron Pollard signed off by talking about Jason Holder, who smashed a half-century, batting in the lower order. He elaborated:

“You can say that (Holder should bat higher?). 12 months ago guys would not be saying that. He can bat in any position in the order. Yes, he can bat at six. He has a role to play for us. He came in a crucial scenario and made a crucial fifty. See if we can work on some technical flaws in the next couple of days and see what happens.”
