India registered a 3-0 whitewash against West Indies in the ODI series and the focus now shifts to the T20 series. The first T20 international will be played on Wednesday at Eden Gardens stadium. Here’s a look at how both these two teams shape up ahead of a highly anticipated encounter.
IND vs WI: Match Preview, India vs West Indies 2022- India vs West Indies 1st T20I
India:

In his first assignment as the full-time captain of the Indian Cricket Team, Rohit Sharma led India to a 3-0 win over New Zealand in the T20 series. The fans would be hoping for a similar result against West Indies. Vice-captain, KL Rahul has been ruled for the series due to a hamstring injury. So, you expect Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan to open the innings in the series.
In the last T20 series, both Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer featured in the playing XI. However, it might not happen in the upcoming series as Virat Kohli will make his way back into the playing XI. Rishabh Pant will continue to don the wicket-keeping gloves, while Yuzvendra Chahal will lead the spin attack. Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin are unavailable due to injuries and, thus, you expect Washington Sundar to be part of the playing XI.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the most experienced player in the pace-attack. He will share the fast bowling duties alongside Mohammed Siraj, Harshal Patel, and Avesh Khan. Senior members, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah are rested for the series.
West Indies:

West Indies might have lost the ODI series but their recent form in T20 internationals inspires confidence. They won their last T20 series against England by a 3-2 margin and would look to continue the winning momentum. Nicholas Pooran finished as the highest run-getter in the series and is, recently, bought at a huge amount at the IPL 2022 auctions. He will be a player to watch out for.
Another player who impressed in that series was Rovman Powell. In the final match of the series, he played a spectacular knock of 35 runs in just 17 balls. A hard-hitting batter, Rovman Powell would be looking to get more chances in the upcoming series. Odean Smith is another all-rounder, who has been making headlines because of his all-round prowess.
West Indies have a lot of all-rounders in the team, which makes them a formidable unit in the shortest format. Akeal Hosein will lead the spin-bowling unit, while Sheldon Cottrell would be seen leading the fast bowling unit. As for the openers, West Indies have got the likes of Shai Hope, Brandon King, and Kyle Mayers. Shai Hope hasn’t fared too well with the bat and, thus, you expect the other two to open the innings.
