Former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar has said that he is keen to see how the Indian bowling unit will perform in the upcoming 3-match One Day International series against West Indies because he feels bowling is a weak area for the Indian team.
The West Indies tour of India 2022 consists of 6-match limited-overs series, including three ODIs and as many T20Is. Also, the series will commence on February 6 and all the ODI games will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and T20Is will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Meanwhile, the Indian bowling unit for the upcoming ODI series consists of, bowling all-rounders Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur. The pace department consists of Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Avesh Khan. Also, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi are three frontline spinners.
During a discussion on the Star Sports show Game Plan, Ajit Agarkar said:
“They are looking at options, that’s a good thing because clearly, India needed options. Very keen to see how the bowlers go because, which wasn’t the case, it is certainly a weak area for the Indian team.”

He added that India can’t just rely on a couple of pacers like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami and they need depth. He asserted:
“I don’t think you can rely on one or two guys, whether it is a Bumrah or a Shami. You need depth, there is enough depth but you need to give people opportunities. I think that’s what they are looking at.”
Mohammed Siraj will keep getting better with experience – Ajit Agarkar

Former Indian cricketer Agarkar was hoping that pacers Siraj and Prasidh Krishna get the opportunity to play all three ODI games against West Indies. He reasoned:
“I hope Siraj and Prasidh Krishna if they start, get all three games in this series because it is not easy for any bowler to settle in white-ball cricket. At times, it is slightly easier in Test cricket, you get time as a bowler.”
The 44-year-old further lauded Siraj and said that he bowls well in all three phases of the game. He elaborated:
“Siraj without a doubt is a frontrunner for me because he can bowl with the new ball, to take wickets in the middle and he has good yorkers at the end. Obviously, he will keep getting better with experience but for me, he is clearly the frontrunner at the moment.”
