Former explosive Indian batter Virender Sehwag praised white-ball captain, Rohit Sharma’s comeback in the first ODI against West Indies. Rohit was injured ahead of the South Africa series where India lost both Test and ODI series.

In his comeback game, Rohit played an attacking 51-ball 60 studded with 10 fours and a six to get India off to a flyer. After his dismissal, the team wobbled a bit but Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda finished the job.

Rohit Sharma, who missed the South Africa tour due to injury, has made a brilliant comeback. While India won the match under his captaincy, he also contributed significantly with that bat.

Everybody thought that India would win the game by 8-9 wickets. The openers gave a great start. It was expected that Virat Kohli would impress with the bat. He started off that way too, but unluckily got caught at fine leg,” Sehwag said on his social media account.

“Rishabh Pant was unlucky” – Virender Sehwag

Sehwag pointed out that Pant’s dismissal in the match was extremely unlucky. Suryakumar played an exquisite straight drive that took a deflection off Alzarri Joseph’s outstretched boot. It ricocheted onto the stumps and Pant was caught outside his crease in the process.

Rishabh Pant was unlucky. Very rarely it happens that a batter hits a perfect straight drive and the non-striker gets run out because of it. At this juncture, it seemed West Indies would make a comeback, as India’s middle-order is inexperienced.”

Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda showcased great composure and finished off the game, which we did not see in South Africa from our middle-order and lower middle-order batters,” Sehwag added.

The 6-wicket win marks the perfect start to Rohit’s full-time captaincy stint and he will be keen to keep it going for the second ODI on Wednesday.
