Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav was pleased with the way all-rounder, Venkatesh Iyer, presented himself when he came in to bat, saying that the positivity from Iyer helped build a partnership when India needed it.

The duo joined hands at 114/4, just after India had lost a flurry of wickets during their run chase of 158. They ended up stitching an unbeaten partnership of 47 to take the hosts over the line with six wickets remaining.

I think when he came in to bat, his positivity was completely different. It passed on to me. The way he started his innings with a boundary, I felt it was the perfect platform for him and me both to finish the game.

I think it was very important for me to stay till the end and win the game for the team because I’ve been in this situation many a time and every time I used to get out leaving 20-25 runs behind, I used to feel bad when I would go back to the hotel room. I think the situation was perfect and I just needed to raise my hand and bail the side out. And it happened so very happy to be on the winning side,” Suryakumar said in the post-match press conference.

Suryakumar was also happy for debutante, Ravi Bishnoi, who ended with figures of 2/17 in four overs and also took home the Player of the Match award. Bishnoi and Yuzvendra Chahal squeezed the Windies batting lineup in the middle-overs, giving India the edge.

It was a good opportunity for him playing against one of the best T20 sides in the world. Putting him under pressure in this time, the opportunity he got, he responded really well. The way he bowled, the way he bagged [a couple of wickets].”

There was a bit of dew. It wasn’t easy for the spinners to grip the ball in their hands. He actually executed everything really well and whenever he was under pressure, he backed himself with his best ball. I feel [it was] the perfect debut for Ravi Bishnoi, I feel very very happy for him and everyone back at his house,” Suryakumar added.

India took a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. The next game will be played at the same venue on Friday.
