Team India defeated New Zealand by 12 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the ongoing One-Day International series, and Mohammed Siraj shone well in front of his home crowd in Hyderabad.

In front of his home crowd, the Indian pacer took 4 wickets in a ferocious spell while his family and friends showed up to support him.

With their incredible shots, Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner nearly put an end to India’s celebration in Hyderabad, but the home team ultimately prevailed. New Zealand lost half of their side within the first 25 overs of their 350-run chase due to a sluggish start.

However, New Zealand remained competitive because of Bracewell and Santner’s strong pairing. For the seventh wicket, the pair contributed 162 runs, with Santner contributing a 45-ball 57.

Bracewell kept things moving for New Zealand despite losing his partner because he was the last man to leave. Shardul Thakur caught him LBW for 140 off 78 balls in the penultimate over. Shubman Gill scored 208 runs off 149 balls earlier in the day to help India amass a mammoth 349/8 in 50 overs.

In his 10 overs, Mohammed Siraj gave up just 46 runs, and in the first ODI, he had the best economy among all Indian bowlers at 4.60 in the first ODI.

After the game, the BCCI posted a video of Siraj’s friends and family congratulating him on a job well done.

Shabana Begum, Siraj’s mother, also was present and expressed optimism that her son would be selected for the Indian team for the forthcoming ODI World Cup 2023.

The video also included a number of Mohammed Siraj’s cricket-playing buddies wishing the Indian bowler well in the future.

“I would like to thank Allah and hope that Mohammed Siraj can continue to shine for India. Hopefully, he can continue his performances and make it into the World Cup squad,” she said.

With the visitors needing 350 runs to win, Michael Bracewell’s 140-run innings nearly led them to victory, but the Indian bowlers prevented them from crossing the finish line.
