Indian cricket team has been eliminated from the Asia Cup after suffering back-to-back defeats in the Super 4 stage of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma and his men suffered a five-wicket loss to Pakistan followed by a six-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka putting curtains to their hopes of qualifying for the final.

The defeat also meant that the selectors and team management still have to answer a few queries before they select the squad for this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

There were question marks over the selection of a few players in this squad and this defeat will only intensify the debate.

3 Indian Players Who Didn’t Deserve To Be In India’s Asia Cup Squad

Let’s have a look at 3 players who didn’t deserve to be in India’s Asia Cup 2022 squad

1. Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan made his T20I debut against West Indies in February and did a decent job to hold his place since then.

However, his last few outings have been terrible as neither taking enough wickets nor is he able to contain runs.

The recent failures have made his economy rate rise to 9.11 which is certainly very high to play him in the marquee event.

In absence of Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian Team wanted someone who could bowl in tough situations and get those crucial wickets and Avesh badly failed in that role.

2. Ravichandran Ashwin

India’s leading off-spinner, Ashwin doesn’t get to play many limited overs games nowadays and is considered more of a test specialist.

The problem lies with his defensive line and lengths when the opponent batters play aggressive cricket.

It’s worth noting that selectors suddenly brought him for the T20 World Cup last year but couldn’t use him enough.

He’s again in the scheme of things for this year’s T20 World Cup but the team certainly needs a spinner who can get wickets in the middle overs rather than someone who restricts big shots.

3. KL Rahul

It would be a bit harsh to say that KL Rahul did not deserve a place in the squad.

Even though Rahul is a consistent performer for the last few years, he didn’t look good enough after he returned from injury.

KL was out of the action for more than 4 months and returned to International cricket in the ODI series against Zimbabwe where he looked really rusty to be considered for selection in the Asia Cup squad.

Rahul got out for just 1 in the second game while he made a sluggish 30 in the third ODI.

One more issue with KL Rahul these days is the strike rate with which he plays. For the last three IPL editions, he plays more of an anchor role while playing with a strike rate of around 110-115.

On the other hand, the Indian team needs a bit of flamboyance at the top to exploit the fielding restrictions.
