Asia Cup 2022: Haris Rauf Was Shaheen Shah Afridi's Supporting Actor, Now He Could Be The Main Hero – Salman Butt

Former Pakistan National Cricket Team captain Salman Butt has said that the 28-year-old right-arm pacer Haris Rauf has the opportunity to become the “main hero” of the Pakistan National Cricket Team in the absence of the 22-year-old left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022.

The Asia Cup 2022 is slated to be played from August 27 to September 11 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Pakistan National Cricket Team are set to lock horns with arch-rivals India National Cricket Team in their tournament opener on August 28 at the Dubai International Stadium.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, August 20, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released a statement in which it was asserted that the star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi’s right knee ligament injury, which he sustained while fielding during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, has ruled him out of the Asia Cup as well as the home series against England.

It was further stated that the young pacer has been advised 4-6 weeks of rest by the Pakistan Cricket Board Medical Advisory Committee and he is expected to return to competitive cricket in October.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Butt said that Shaheen is undoubtedly Pakistan’s best pacer, but in his absence, Shahnawaz Dahani and Rauf will have an opportunity to leave a strong impression. He added that Rauf was Shaheen’s “supporting actor” and now he has the opportunity to become the “main hero”.

“Shaheen is our best bowler but if other players like Shahnawaz Dahani and Haris Rauf want to impress, this is the perfect platform to do so,” Butt said in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel.

“Now look at Haris, first he was Shaheen’s supporting actor, now he could be the main hero. So, this is an opportunity for others and I am not at all worried about it,” the former Pakistan skipper said.
