Former India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel has made a huge prediction that the modern-day batting great Virat Kohli will open the innings for Team India in the Asia Cup 2022 alongside captain Rohit Sharma.
The Asia Cup 2022, which is the 15th edition of the tournament, is set to be played from August 27 to September 11. The entire tournament is set to be held in United Arab Emirates (UAE). The games will be played across two cities, including Dubai and Sharjah.
The tournament was originally set to be played in Sri Lanka but was shifted to United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to economic and political crises in the country.
Meanwhile, star batter Virat Kohli, who is going through a lean patch, last scored a ton in 2019 and he has been struggling to make good contributions with the bat in the past few months.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, he scored 341 runs at an average of 22.73 and a strike rate of 115.98, including two half-centuries. Also, in the recent all-format tour of England, Kohli registered scores of 11 & 20 in the Edgbaston Test, 1 and 11 in two T20Is, and 16 and 17 in two ODIs.
I just feel he will open – Parthiv Patel on Virat Kohli
The 37-year-old former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel had earlier said that Kohli might open the innings for the India National Cricket Team alongside captain Rohit Sharma in the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup and he reiterated the claim on Saturday.
After India’s 59-run win over West Indies in the 4th T20I, Parthiv Patel, Harsha Bhogle and Gaurav Kapur were discussing the opening prospects for India on Cricbuzz.
During the discussion, Parthiv Patel once again said that he believes Kohli, who is currently on a break, will be seen playing as an opener for India in the Asia Cup tournament.
“Not for one game only (Rishabh Pant opening). I’m sticking to my word. I think Virat Kohli will open in Asia Cup. I just feel he will,” said the former India wicketkeeper-batter.
