Asia Cup 2022: You All See How Impactful He Is To The Indian Team: Scott Styris Says Of KL Rahul's Selection Over Ishan Kishan

In the Indian team’s squad for the Asia Cup 2022, KL Rahul was chosen above Ishan Kishan, as Scott Styris has noted, because he is a critical part of the team.

For the Asian Cup, which begins on August 27 and will be played in the UAE, the Indian selectors have chosen a 15-person team. Two expert openers have been selected for the game: Rohit Sharma and Rahul.

In a conversation on the Sports 18 program “Sports Over the Top,” Scott Styris was questioned about why Rahul had suddenly entered the frame while Ishan had been left out. He answered:

“It is a wise question. KL Rahul is an easy choice. I believe this was the easiest match-up out of all the ones we could discuss. You have witnessed his importance to the Indian team, the management, and the selection committee.”

“He was also handed the vice-captaincy, which indicates that he was always the star player in this Indian team’s front row. KL Rahul’s return is fantastic for India because he can truly make the difference on the greatest platform.”

‘I guess it’s unlucky for Ishan Kishan’: Scott Styris

Ishan’s unfortunate lack of selection was acknowledged by Scott Styris. He reasoned as follows:

“Ishan Kishan’s left-handed skill is unfortunate because up to someone like Rishabh Pant, the side is overwhelmingly dominated by right-handed players. I think they would have wanted to have included him in the squad if they could have. Because he is such a great player, I imagine he will be disappointed.”

Despite Rahul’s unavailability, Ishan Kishan has recently primarily warmed the benches in T20I cricket. The management of the Indian team decided against giving the Mumbai Indians southpaw more opportunity and instead decided to try players like Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant at the top of the order.
