Harbhajan Singh, a former off-spinner, believed that India should reintroduce Shikhar Dhawan into the lineup in light of the left-dependable hander’s performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL). After India’s September 2 Super Four loss to Sri Lanka by a margin of six wickets, Harbhajan made the remarks.
Although Punjab Kings (PBKS) didn’t make the playoffs in IPL 2022, experienced batsman Shikhar Dhawan was undoubtedly his team’s best player. The southpaw amassed 460 runs from 14 games, with a maximum score of 88* and three half-centuries.

When he opened opposite Prithvi Shaw for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in a few IPL seasons, the 36-year-old Dhawan was equally excellent.
“Bring back Ishan Kishan and Shikhar Dhawan. Shikhar has scored runs and he is consistent and the current Indian team needs that consistency. In the IPL, Dhawan scores decent runs every year.
So, my opinion is to bring back players who have got runs and who know how to score runs,” Harbhajan Singh was quoted as saying on Aaj Tak.
Harbhajan Singh Questions Dinesh Karthik’s Absence From Playing 11
Harbhajan Singh, who announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in December, also criticised the team’s leadership for leaving Dinesh Karthik out of the playing XI for the Asia Cup.
“Rohit, Virat, KL and others are all good players. But we have to see who’s better for which format. What mistake has Dinesh Karthik made to get dropped?
He made his way into the squad at the age of 37 after outstanding performances. Then he played well in the West Indies and other tours where he batted well,” he stated.
Karthik participated in the initial game against Pakistan when he had nothing to do, and he then missed his opportunity to bat against Hong Kong.
“Most importantly, he is consistent and at his peak. Suddenly, he gets dropped from the playing XI after only one match in the Asia Cup. Honestly, it’s beyond my understanding. I don’t know if he is injured, I don’t know if he isn’t a team man. He is too good a player, he should be in your playing XI,” Harbhajan Singh added.
India must defeat Afghanistan in order to have any hope of competing in the final after losing their first two Super Four games to Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
