Sri Lanka and Pakistan are the teams who have qualified for the final, while the Indian team’s Asia Cup 2022 campaign is about to come to an end at the Super 4 stage.
Afghanistan’s loss against the Men in Green means that they and India are both eliminated from the championship race, while the Men in Blue lost both of their Super 4 matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Numerous supporters are concerned about India’s prospects of winning the T20 World Cup 2022, which will begin in the middle of October, as a result of the manner in which the squad was eliminated from the competition.
Let’s Get Behind This Indian Team: Sunil Gavaskar
One of the greatest hitters in the history of the game, Sunil Gavaskar, has asked supporters to support the Men in Blue while also pleading with the organisation to rectify the gaps that the Asia Cup showed.
“Let’s get behind this Indian team. Give them encouragement. Yes, okay fine, this has happened, but what is more important now? The T20 World Cup. Because after 2007, India have not won the T20 World Cup.
India have won the Asia Cup quite a number of times. It’s time to get behind and tell them it’s happened, but please see the areas you can improve and plug those gaps,” Sunil Gavaskar told India Today.
You Get Into Sync When The Same Team Is Playing: Sunil Gavaskar
In addition, Sunil Gavaskar stated that there should be no more experiments leading up to the T20 World Cup 2022 and that any talk about “workload” should immediately come to an end.
“It has not come about (sync) because you haven’t had the same team playing. You get into a sync when the whole team is playing. You try to experiment, there is nothing wrong with that.
There are always 3 or 4 places up for grabs in a team and in the process of trying to identify those players, you try to go in with different teams. What that did was obviously, you know, when other players come back into the team, the sync will take a longer time,” Gavaskar further said.
Before the T20 World Cup 2022 starts, Rohit Sharma’s side does have a number of bilateral series to test themselves. To choose the team for the championship match in Australia, the selection committee is, however, in a bind given the current circumstances.
