Kapil Dev has indicated that he is not concerned about Virat Kohli’s performance, as the batsman was able to make an impression in the team’s Asia Cup 2022 match against Pakistan on Sunday (August 28).

During an interview with ANI, the former India skipper stated that Kohli appeared to be in good form during his comeback game. He believes the star batter simply needs to be more confident in his shots in the forthcoming games.

Kapil Dev noted that while India’s No.3 received a respite early in his innings as Fakhar Zaman dropped a difficult opportunity at second slip, he was able to remain at the crease for a long period. Kapil Dev went on to say that Kohli’s mentality sets him distinct from the rest.

“I am not concerned about Virat Kohli’s form, but it is fantastic to see him back.” I saw a couple of shots that had an impact, and I simply want him to be more certain about that. He returned looking good.”

“He was fortunate to be dropped in the first over, but he was there. I like his attitude not today, but throughout the last ten years, and that makes him a much greater player than anyone else.”

Kohli shouldn’t worry about his form: Kapil Dev

Kapil Dev further said that the veteran player is only one knock away from regaining his form. The legendary cricketer advised Kohli to take pride in playing for his nation rather than stress over his performance.

“I believe that you should not concentrate on running for your country, but rather, realize that you are representing something far greater than yourself: your country. He ought to still feel as though he is speaking for the nation.”

“No player will get a zero in every match, but with his ability and talent, I believe he should not take his time getting back into shape. I do not doubt that he will return after only one strong inning.”

Kohli, who returned to the team after a brief break, scored 35 against Pakistan. After the Men in Blue lost KL Rahul in the first over of the run-chase, he helped to maintain the momentum.
