IND vs SL: "He’s Cooling His Heels At Home": Ravi Shastri Angry At India's ‘Baffling’ Selection In Asia Cup, Wasim Akram Reacts

Indian Cricket Team suffered a massive loss against Sri Lanka in the Super 4 stage on Tuesday (06th September). The Men in Blue would be extremely disappointed with this performance as now they are almost out of Asia Cup 2022. Ravi Shastri was pretty much frustrated as there was no balance in the team. India’s hopes rest on Afghanistan vs Pakistan match where it’s unlikely that Afghanistan will win given Pakistan’s resurgence.
Asia Cup 2022 is proving to be a nightmare for the Men in Blue. The opening encounter was a perfect game for a billion people where they thrashed Pakistan, but the Super 4 stage has been quite dreadful. The team has to name ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Squad within a week and there are a lot of concerns as the T20 World Cup is just a month away.

Ravi Shastri on Selection & Mohammed Shami
Speaking at the post-match show of Star Sports, Ravi Shastri raised question marks. “When you need to win, you got to prepare better. I think the selection could have been better, especially for the fast bowlers. You know the conditions here. There’s not much in it for the spinner.
I was quite surprised that you came here with just four fast bowlers (including Hardik). You needed that extra one… someone like Mohammed Shami sitting at home and cooling his heels baffles me. After the IPL he had, for him not to be able to make the cut is… Obviously, I’m seeing something different,” an animated Ravi Shastri said

Wasim Akram, Pakistani Legendary Cricket immediately made a comment. “Does a coach have input in selecting the team?”
Ravi Shastri, the former Indian Head Coach was quite furious. “He does. He’s not part of the selection. he can contribute by saying ‘this is the combination we want’ then it’s up to the captain in the meeting to take that forward. When I say planning… There should have been one extra fast bowler. One spinner less in the 15-16. You don’t wanna be caught situation where one guy has a fever and then you have no one else to play. You have to play another spinner which can be embarrassing in the end” Ravi Shastri replied.
Questionable Selection from the Management
Captain Rohit Sharma and Head Coach Rahul Dravid should be accountable for the team’s dismal show as the team selection was quite astonishing. Once again the management dropped Dinesh Karthik and played Deepak Hooda who was terrible.
Ashwin’s inclusion was the need of the hour given Sri Lanka’s batting lineup had 3 left-handers; but not at the expense of Bishnoi who didn’t do any harm to India’s team against Pakistan.

The team should have targeted 190+ runs while batting first given chasing becomes easier. Scoring 170 odd runs won’t win you crunch matches. The decision to send Hardik Pandya ahead of Rishabh Pant raised a lot of eyebrows as Hardik’s role is to end the innings on a high. It would be interesting to see whether these questions are answered by the management as there is very less time now before the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
