Former cricketer Chandu Borde reckoned that Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant is a certainty in the playing XI across formats and has no competition for his slot in the team.
With the rise of Dinesh Karthik in T20Is as a finisher, Pant’s place in the team was questioned. Although his game is tailor-made for the shortest format, Pant has a poor record in T20Is.
Therefore, Karthik’s case of being a wicket-keeper and finisher took precedence among the Indian fans. However, Borde feels there’s no competition between the two.

“This is great competition within the team. Whoever performs will be part of the team. To be honest, I don’t think there is any competition for Rishabh Pant.”
“He is an automatic choice and will continue to be an important part of the team. Pant is a player who can change the momentum of the game in no time, and he is not just a finisher – he can play anywhere and anytime,” Borde told India TV.

Pant is still young and early in his career and has a long way to go. He has already established himself as a certainty in Test cricket but has a lot of work to do in the white-ball formats.
“If you look at Pant’s career span, he has just started out, but the way he has won matches for India – it’s unbelievable. With time, as he learns more, his performance will reach newer heights,” he added.
