Former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq said that India wasted a lot of Ravichandran Ashwin’s best years by dropping him from the white-ball squad of the national team.

Ashwin went out of favor back in 2017 and had to wait 4 years for his return. He came back into the side for the T20 World Cup last year and has now made his mark. Ashwin is part of the squad that will be playing the Asia Cup in the UAE.

I feel sorry for Ashwin because I don’t understand why they removed him from white-ball cricket. They have wasted his years. He is a complete package as he can bat as well.”

There are two types of bowlers – one who sets traps to dismiss batters and one who is economical. Ashwin is the only player in the world who can do both of these things. He has both the gears,” Mushtaq told Sportskeeda.

“I feel this is a very good move by the Indian team” – Saqlain Mushtaq

Mushtaq asserted that the captain-coach duo of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid took the right call by bringing Ashwin back into the fold.

I feel India selectors were unfair by dropping him from the white-ball team. He is a world-class bowler and one of the greats. Now that he has been selected, I think Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid must have an influence, even the selectors as well, I feel this is a very good move by the Indian team,” he added.

India squad for Asia Cup:
