India captain Rohit Sharma talked about the upcoming mega encounter against Pakistan on August 28 in Dubai in the Asia Cup 2022 but refused to hype the match calling the Men in Green, just another opposition.
The two teams will clash for the first time in the last 10 months. The last time they had clashed was at this same venue in the 2021 T20 World Cup when Pakistan routed India by 10 wickets registering their first-ever win against the Men in Blue in World Cup tournaments.
However, much has changed in the Indian team since then, with Rohit Sharma taking over as captain from Virat Kohli and having won the majority of the T20I series he has captained India in since taking over. It is to be noted that India is the two-time defending champions of the Asia Cup, as they won the T20 format tournament in 2016 under MS Dhoni and the 2018 ODI format under Rohit Sharma.
We Don’t Want To Hype This Game Too Much: Rohit Sharma On India-Pakistan Tie In Asia Cup 2022
Some feel Team India, under Rohit Sharma, will avenge their defeat in the T20 World Cup and go all the way in the continental tournament. The others feel that Pakistan is the favourite as the tournament is being held in the UAE.
Rohit Sharma, speaking to the tournament’s broadcaster Star Sports, has downplayed the hype around the contest. He did admit that it is a high-pressure game and they will treat it as important as the playing against any other opposition.
“Everyone watches the game and it’s a high-pressure game without a doubt, but within the group we want to create a normal atmosphere. We don’t want to hype this game too much. It’s important to tell the players who haven’t played against Pakistan or played them just one or two times that it’s just another opposition,” he told Star Sports.
The match is expected to be a blockbuster despite the fact that India is without marquee pacers like Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel in the tournament while Pakistan is also missing Shaheen Shah Afridi.
