Bangladesh’s T20 captain Shakib al Hasan claimed that they paid a price for failing to handle pressure during their Asia Cup 2022 match against Sri Lanka in Dubai, which they had to win. Bangladesh ultimately lost the thrilling match in the final over, exiting the tournament.

By bowling eight wides and four no-balls, Bangladesh made matters worse for themselves. To make matters worse, Mahedi Hasan’s no-ball in the seventh over gave Kusal Mendis (60), Sri Lanka’s leading scorer for the match, a lifeline.

The Sri Lanka National Cricket Team won the toss for the elimination game and decided to field first. Mehidy Hasan Miraz (38), Mahmudullah (27), Afif Hossain (39), and Mosaddek Hossain all contributed well to Bangladesh’s first-innings score of 183/7. (24).

Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka gave Sri Lanka a strong start in their pursuit of the objective. Earlier than getting bowled out by Mustafizur Rahman in the 15th over, opener Kusal Mendis played a superb 60-run inning.

In the end, Chamika Karunaratne scored an impressive 16 runs, and captain Dasun Shanaka played a solid 45-run knock.

Sri Lanka needed 8 runs off the final over to win the match, and Asitha Fernando’s critical 10 runs allowed Sri Lanka to win by 2 wickets to become the third team, after Afghanistan and India, to qualify for the Asia Cup Super 4 stage in 2022.

We bowled a lot of no balls and wide balls: Shakib al Hasan

Bangladesh’s T20 captain Shakib al Hasan claimed that they paid a price for failing to handle pressure during their Asia Cup 2022 match against Sri Lanka in Dubai.

“No captain wants a no ball and a spinner bowling a no ball is a crime. We bowled a lot of no balls and wide balls and that is not disciplined bowling. These are pressure games and we need to learn a lot from here and move forward,” Shakib al Hasan told reporters on Thursday.

“The turning point could be when our batsmen got out (at crucial moments) and spinners bowling a no ball is a crime. It proved how we can break (down) in a pressure situation. We need to improve on that skill-wise but we break whenever there is pressure and lose the game. We need to improve a lot in the death overs,” he added.

When Bangladesh travels to Australia to compete in the T20 World Cup, Shakib al Hasan noted that they will require a group of 4-5 pacemen since they must rely on speed bowlers on those surfaces.
