Indian skipper Rohit Sharma provided an update about KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer’s comeback. He said that both the players have been working hard at the NCA and they are quite positive about them returning to the team.
India has been without the services of two of their main batters in the middle order. Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have missed a lot of cricket and it’s fair to say that their absence has been the biggest concern for the team of late.
Shreyas Iyer has been out due to a back injury whereas KL Rahul has been nursing a thigh injury. They both underwent surgeries and have been toiling hard at the NCA. But there has been no confirmation about when they will be making a comeback in the team.
Few reports have suggested that India might not rush them and name them in the squad for the Asia Cup 2023 to keep them fresh for the ICC World Cup 2023. There was an indication of that during the ODIs against West Indies, where they tried different combinations and players but they didn’t succeed.
Rohit Sharma while talking about Asia Cup 2023 said that they want to win but they need answers for a few questions as well. He made a stern statement, saying that he wants his players to perform under pressure.
Speaking to reporters: “We will see, we want to win but at the same time there are a lot of questions that we need answers of. But in the Asia Cup, I want to see some of the guys batting under pressure against quality teams.
“I still want to see those things, so we will wait and see what happens, but it is always nice to have a lot of names, rather than just one or two names. I hope they are fit in time – firstly that is the most important,” he added.
Asia Cup 2023: Rahul and Iyer have been at the NCA for the last four months – Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma while talking about KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer’s comeback said that they are on track in their recovery and they are keeping their fingers crossed for their return.
“They (Rahul and Iyer) have been at the NCA for the last four months, working really hard and it looks quite positive so we will keep our fingers crossed,” he said.
BCCI have shortlisted players for the World Cup and after performances, they will cut down the squad to the final 15. Here’s India’s likely core squad for the World Cup:
