The IND vs AUS Border-Gavaskar Trophy starts from February 9 with the first Test in Nagpur. The Test series culminates the WTC 2021-23 cycle. Australia are topping the WTC points table followed by India placed second. The Men in Blue needs to win the series to qualify for the WTC final.

The tour will begin on February 9th with the first Test in Nagpur Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium. The Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi will host the second Test from February 17 to 21. The third Test will be played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala from March 1 to 5 and the fourth Test will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad from March 9 to 13.

According to the International Cricket Council’s Men’s Future Tours Programme (FTP) for 2023-27, Australia and India will be playing two five-match series during the period for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which will be part of the ICC World Test Championship. First, Australia will host India in the 2023-25 cycle and then India will host Australia in the 2025-27 cycle.

After a five-year wait, Delhi will host an IND vs AUS Test for the first time. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the city missed out, having last hosted a Test against Sri Lanka in 2017. With winter going on in northern India right now, the weather might be an issue at the venue. Meanwhile, the fourth Test in Ahmedabad will be a day-night affair as per reports.

The BCCI has announced a 17-member squad for the first two IND vs AUS Tests while Australia have announced an 18-member squad for the Test series. Virat Kohli led India in their previous Test series against Australia. He lost the first Test as captain and then had to fly back home for the birth of his first child. Kohli scored 74 in the first innings and just 4 in the second as India were bundled out for 36. The former Indian skipper seems to have found his touch having scored two ODI hundreds in the series against Sri Lanka and one T20I hundred against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup last year. As a player now., he is even more hungry for runs and has a point to prove. Kohli has scored 1682 runs in 20 Tests against Australia.

Cheteshwar Pujara was rock solid for India in the previous BGT series. He was the fourth-highest run-getter in the series and the second-highest for India (271) after Rishabh Pant (274). India’s Test specialist recently scored his 19th Test ton in the series against Bangladesh. Pjurara’s temperament will be tested in his heated series one feels and he will be a very big player for the hosts. Pujara scored three fifties in the previous series. Overall, Pujara has 1893 runs against Australia in 20 Test matches.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin picked 12 wickets in three test matches in the previous series. He also helped India earn a crucial draw in the second Test scoring an unbeaten 39 runs along with Hanuma Vihari’s unbeaten 23. In Indian conditions, Ashwin is undroppable not only for his bowling potential but his batting potential as well. In this series as well he is perhaps India’s most crucial and experienced bowler. The off-spinner has picked up 89 wickets and is 11 short of getting to 100 wickets against them. Overall, he has picked up 449 wickets in 88 Test matches.
