Wasim Jaffer believes that an in-form Hitman is critical for Men in Blue. Rohit Sharma was India’s top batsman in the second T20I, striking an unbeaten 46 off 20 balls. Rohit was instrumental in India’s victory in Nagpur.

In a shortened eight-over contest, Rohit led the Men in Blue to an important six-wicket victory with his unbeaten innings of 46 off 20 balls while chasing a target of 91. He received the Player of the Match award for his outstanding batting performance.

The second Twenty20 International between India and Australia was postponed due to weather, and India captain Rohit Sharma finally displayed strong form as he led the team from the front. Wasim Jaffer, a former cricketer for India, has warmly welcomed Rohit’s comeback to form as the T20 World Cup 2022 approaches.

Rohit assumed responsibility for the delivery in a rain-affected encounter that was shortened to 8 overs per side after KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya were cheaply dismissed. Rohit waged a solitary battle, scoring 46 off 20 until Dinesh Karthik’s 10 off 2 deliveries enabled India to complete the chase with 6 wickets remaining.

He is not as bulky as those West Indian players: Wasim Jaffer

In a conversation with ESPNCricinfo, Wasim Jaffer emphasized the value of a strong Rohit Sharma for Team India.

“India needs this Rohit Sharma. He makes six-hitting look easy. He is not as bulky as those West Indian players, but he hits it sweetly and a long way. And if you pitch anything short around his body, he is absolute class. With a 20 or 30, India would have lost this game. It was important that he batted till the end,” Wasim Jaffer said.

“That innings was the difference from India’s point of view. Rohit was the only one who was hitting it well. Otherwise, it looked like Australia came with a straight plan to bowl slower balls into the wicket, wide outside the off-stump. Not many other than Rohit could hit those sixes,” Wasim Jaffer added.

The victory brings India’s three-match series against Australia to a 1-1 tie. The series’ third and final match will be played on Sunday in Hyderabad.
