Australia faces India in the third and final T20I in Hyderabad on September 25, Sunday. It is the decider of the three-match series with the series poised at 1-1 after India’s win in the second T20I. The Aussies will look to seal the series with a good performance.
The Aussies scored 90/5 in a rain-truncated game. Matthew Wade‘s unbeaten 43 off 20 balls was key to the team getting there. However, India chased the score down with four balls to spare to level the series 1-1. Skipper Aaron Finch was not too puzzled by the outcome and spoke about the positives from the game.
“You probably plan for a 5 over game and then a bit more to it. Rohit played brilliantly and two overs of Axar made the difference. Wade is a calm customer at the back end and he has grown into that finisher’s role. Zampa was good too” said Finch.
Despite the defeat, Australia might back the same side to play the decider. In this article, we take a look at Australia’s likely playing XI for the third T20I against India in Hyderabad. The second T20I XI looked a lot more balanced and that is what the management might not consider changing.

Aaron Finch (C)
Finch scored 31 off 15 balls in the second T20I before he was cleaned up by Jasprit Bumrah. He played with intent and needs t keep up the tempo in the final game.
Cameron Green
After the highs of the first game, he scored just five in the second T20I. He will be expected to go big in the final game.
Steve Smith
Smith scored just 8 in the second T20I. His role will be similar in the third T20I which is that of anchoring the innings.
Glenn Maxwell
Maxwell scored a first-ball duck in the second T20I. He scored just one in the first T20I. The series has not gone well for him so far.
Tim David
David will be given another opportunity in the series. He will be key in the series decider for Australia. He gave a glimpse of his big-hitting prowess in the first T20I.
Matthew Wade (WK)
Wade has looked the best Australian batter in the series so far. He scored 45 in the first T20I and 43 in the second.
Daniel Sams
Sams gives them another option with the bat at number seven. However, he was expensive with the ball going for 20 of his 1.2 overs in the second T20I.
Pat Cummins
Cummins slots in at number eight. He lengthens the batting lineup of the side. Plus he is the premier pace of the side as well in the absence of Mitchell Starc. So far he has picked up just one wicket.
Nathan Ellis
Ellis should be back in the side replacing Sean Abbott in the XI. He picked up three for 30 in the first game and was dropped in the second.
Josh Hazlewood
Hazlewood was expensive in the second T20I bowling just one over and going for 20 runs. However, he will be Australia’s crucial cog with the ball in the decider.
Adam Zampa
Zampa picked up three wickets in the series and will complete the likely playing XI for Australia. He will be eyeing the wicket of Virat Kohli once again.
