Former Australian cricketer Callum Ferguson believes David Warner, the team’s seasoned left-handed opener, will dominate the team’s Test series against India in February and March of 2019.

His remarks follow Warner’s spectacular double-century in 255 balls in his 100th Test match, which helped Australia defeat South Africa by an innings and 182 runs on Boxing Day at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to claim the series (MCG).

According to the cricket schedule, the Australia Tour of India 2023 will begin on Thursday, February 9, 2023, and will be hosted by India. In the months of February and March 2023, India will host four Tests and three One-Day Internationals (ODIs). The final match of the India-Australia bilateral series in 2023 will be contested on March 22 in Chennai.

Australia will be well-prepared for the India visit following recent results in Pakistan (where they won three-match series 1-0) and Sri Lanka (1-1 tie in two-match series), with players getting experience playing Test matches in subcontinent conditions.

“David Warner could really be the man to really tear the initial stages”: Callum Ferguson

David Warner, who also crossed the 8000-run mark during the MCG Test, is the most experienced campaigner, having toured the country thrice for Test tours previously. He is yet to make a Test century on Indian soil, averaging just 24.25.

“I think with the form he’s shown here, he’s got the feeling for batting long again. That’s so important for India, if you can get an opener in good form over there, it’s flat early in the Test match, bat first and, get a guy to make 150-200, I think he could really be the man to really tear the initial stages up for us,” said Ferguson in the post-Boxing Day Test episode of Willow Talk on Triple M Sports radio.
Australia’s next Test assignment, which will be a four-test tour of India as part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, will come after the third and final Test against South Africa in Sydney.
