Ajay Jadeja, a former Indian cricketer, criticised the leadership of the Indian team, particularly captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid, for mishandling Suryakumar Yadav’s batting position in the third One-Day International against Australia in Chennai.
As “SKY” was bowled twice for a golden duck in the first two ODIs, the team management decided to downgrade him to No. 7 in the batting order. The choice didn’t work out since Yadav was once dismissed on the very first delivery.

Ajay Jadeja discussed with Cricbuzz why India should have trusted Suryakumar Yadav to bat at No.4.
He stated: “When you’re going through a good time, it doesn’t matter if you make the batter wait. But if the form isn’t good and you let the player wait for his batting, his mind would run in different directions. He is a human being! He’s the same Suryakumar Yadav who scored 360 degrees across the ground. When someone like Virat Kohli faced so many months out of form, it means there’s something in the mind that affects your game.”
Mitchell Starc dismissed Suryakumar Yadav for two straight golden ducks in the opening two One-Day Internationals against Australia, as he struggled to read the in-swinging deliveries. The third dismissal, however, was more concerning, as he was bowled by Ashton Agar.

“You can only regain form when you play ahead”- Ajay Jadeja
Ajay Jadeja said that as the overs went by and the Men in Blue continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, the game only became more difficult. He thought Suryakumar Yadav ought to have batted when the chase was simpler because it would have given him time to calm down.
“In our days, it used to be said that if someone isn’t in form, and if he plays at no.4 and you send him at no.7, it will always be more challenging. You will always feel more comfortable when you bat up the order. When you come at no.7, whatever strength you have in your batting, you’ve already lost 60-80 percent of it. You can only regain form when you play ahead. You can’t save anyone. If you try to save someone, this game will only kill you more,” Ajay Jadeja said.
Suryakumar Yadav will need a fantastic IPL 2023 season with the bat to keep his status in the Indian ODI team.
