Following the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, India will host four Test matches against Australia in February and March 2023. Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir believes that Kuldeep Yadav will be the “X-Factor” for Team India in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), ahead of left-arm spinner Axar Patel and veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

Australia dominated the 2023 World Test Championship and currently leads the points table, while India is in second place. This will be the final Test series for both teams and will decide their fate for the World Test Championship final. Spin bowlers will play an important role in the Test series as Indian grounds are traditionally spin-friendly.

“He was always there. It’s just about his confidence. Whatever we have seen of Rohit Sharma, he can give that confidence to young bowlers. Now it’s time that they should persist with Kuldeep Yadav. His bowing a lot in international cricket will be crucial in the Australia Test series. If you keep him in the sheds and don’t make him play one-day format and you suddenly bring him for the Test series, there’s going to be less bowling under his belt,” Gambhir said.

He Should Be Playing Every 50-Over Format Game – Gautam Gambhir

The left-arm wrist spinner scored 40 runs and formed a crucial partnership of 87 runs with Ravichandran Ashwin in the first innings of the first Test against Bangladesh. Kuldeep took eight wickets in the match, including a five-wicket haul, and won the Player of The Match award. He did not get a place in the playing XI in the second Test in Dhaka.

“I feel that he should be playing every 50-over format game till the Australia Test series because he is going to be very important factor in that series. For me, he is going to be the x-factor ahead of R Ashwin, Axar Patel,” he added.
