Beating India in a Test series on their home soil is the biggest challenge for any visiting team, as the hosts have not lost a series in the last 10 years. Former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist believes that Australia has the best chance to lift the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in India for the first time since 2004.
Gilchrist took over the captaincy in the first three Test matches of the 2004 tour in the absence of Ricky Ponting and helped the Men in Yellow take an unassailable 2-0 lead, which was their first Test series victory in India since 1969. The southpaw was the last Aussie captain to lead Australia to multiple victories on Indian soil.

They Have A Very Good Chance Of Winning – Adam Gilchrist
The visitors ended the series 2-1 with big wins in Bengaluru and Nagpur before suffering a defeat in Mumbai. Gilchrist emphasized the similarities between this team and the 2004 team and said that Australia’s success benefited from their previous experiences of playing on subcontinental tours before playing in India.
“There’s not going to be anything easy and it’s not going to be a walk in the park, but it is their best chance and I expect them to do really, really well. The balance of their squad and how experienced the team is now is important,” Adam Gilchrist told AAP.
“They’ve had a number of tours to subcontinental countries to gain and learn from and that was what held us up in 2004. “We were very well planned and prepared due to the experiences we had, both positive and negative, previously in the subcontinent. This group of players has built up that bank of knowledge and the skills that they have, so they have a very good chance of winning.”
