Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the ODI series against Sri Lanka owing to back stiffness, as per skipper Rohit Sharma, less than a week after being returned to the squad.
This sequence would mark his return to action after being sidelined due to a back injury since September. Bumrah was injured following the England tour in July, and his return was hindered by playing two T20Is against Australia in September.

TOI reports that the BCCI has decided to be extremely cautious with Bumrah and has created an exception by allowing him to choose his comeback match.
“Bumrah has been ruled out of the next three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah, who was scheduled to join the team in Guwahati ahead of the ODI series, will require extra time to develop bowling resilience. “This decision was made as a precautionary measure,” BCCI said in a statement on Monday.
It is said that the board has maintained communication with Bumrah and has assured him that he won’t be rushed into anything like what happened before the T20 World Cup. “Bumrah is the best judge of it since it’s his body. Although he was named to the team, he was never forced to play in this series. It is up to him to decide if he is indeed prepared to play at full strength in an international match, ” a BCCI supply stated.
Jasprit Bumrah To Take A Call On His Fitness Himself:
As per reports, the board, staff administration, and selectors aren’t concerned if Bumrah doesn’t play during the year because they need him available for important occasions.
“As things stand now, he has been told that the team needs him for the Test series at home against Australia next month” BCCI supply stated.
“He has been asked to prepare himself to play at least three Tests against Australia, be available for the World Test Championship Final in June if India qualifies, and then the ODI World Cup in India in Oct-Nov this year. A few ODI matches before the World Cup can also suffice,” the supply stated.
Bumrah also missed the ICC Twenty20 World Cup, where India lost to England in the semi-finals.
